Matt, a couple of years ago while on holiday, there was some serious leerie action in Aston Bay lagoon. It was closed at the time, and you could see the leeries chasing the mullet. A dude there told me he caught a 6kg leerie the previous day. Is this true, maybe, maybe not, but definatly worth a shot. Pink clousers.
The mouth is open at Austin bay lagoon,my friend just return from there holiday home there, was there last year and caught some leeries on salty buggers.
Matt
Cape St Francis point is one of the few recognised places where you can catch yellowtail off the shore. Although they are probably still a bit too far out for the fly. However, the whole area from around the lighthouse to seals is awesome reef area with plenty leeries.
The Krom River at St Francis Bay is also worth a cast and usually holds a leerie or two as well as plenty of grunter.
Dont forget a bait stick for when the South Easter is pumping at Cape St Francis- there is some awesome musselcracker action to be had as well.
You are also a 30 odd minute drive (I would guess) from the Gamtoos River which produces plenty kob.
Other than that- dont forget to go and jol with the honeys in St Francis and Jeffreys- St Francis is better at this time of the year though- Jeffreys becomes a bit of a trailer park over December!
Enjoy bru- you have some lekke fishing at your feet!
Thanks for all the advice guys its much appreciated!
I will be staying right at seals so also been thinking of
tho reefs there and from what you guys have told me it seems like i might get a leerie or two there!
Thanks again!!!

Does anyone have any recent experience of fishing around Cape St Francis that they can share? I will be there in late Dec to Jan and keen to fit in some fishing.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Early early early early early early ... that's the first thing ... as soon as the boats and jetski's and stuff start moving, it dies down.
Plain Olive/White, Chartreuse/White, Pink/White Clousers and make sure to have some plain white clousers with a UV blue flash ... have had times there that only white flies would get hits. You can catch some nice (small) Shad moving in through the mouth on the push, otherwise before sunrise or after sunset near the lighthouse/rocks.
Have fun!
Thanks for the advice. I have caught a few fish SW flyfishing but am a relative newbie here....
What about line type, etc?
Best times to fish in terms of tide?
Is it worth fishing from the banks of the river around the bridge?
What other areas in the river and river mouth produce?
