    Default What is a "Paaling"

    Good day Gents,

Recently I was fishing for yellows and a local farmer came up and started chatting.
He said the pool I was fishing was called the "Paaling Gat" and he has caught some of over 5kg in it.....
What is a Paaling and DOES IT TAKE FLIES..?

That would be an eel and it probably would. They eat worms, insect larvae, snails, crabs, fish, ducks etc.

    JCD, eel is correct...

All rivers flowing east have eels, they spawn at sea and then return to a river to live for a few years then spawn at sea again, kind of like a steelhead, only the other way round...

    Regards

UK reports suggest that eels are often caught on Black Dancer's/Woolly Buggers. Can't hurt to try a Fritz as well.
