    I don't use hackle pliers, I use my thumb and forefinger to hold the hackle.

    Am I doing something wrong

    There again I do not tie smaller then #18.

    I'm the same Herman, I tie down to #22 and have never had the need for them.
    Fishing is just my thing. I don't know what it is but it seems that i just can't get enough of it.

    My favorite tools are a Petitjean TT bobbin and of course superglue.
