Hi Wayne
A mate of mine is guiding at Alphonse, I will mail him and see what he recommends.
Hi All
I am going on a trip to Alphonse (Seychelles) in April this year and need to get my flybox in order. I am not traditionally a saltwater angler so if anyone has any advice on some "must have" flies for my arsenal please let me know.
Thanks

Thanks Andrew
Really appreciate it
no problem. I've mailed but he is usually pretty slow with his replies. I'll let you know when he gets back to me.

Hi wayne
Here are two to start with:

These work extremely well for me at Alphonse.
Definitely add some 8/0 Black Brush Flies for the GT's and a load of Bonefish patterns.
Cheers

Thanks So Much. going to start on these two beauts tonight
don't forget the "avalon" style fly, seems alot of people swear by it these days:

wayne i havent fished alphonse but we fished Farquhar in Dec.
I tied about 20 different types of avalons and couldnt convince anything to eat them... so I wouldnt really bother with those. Little charlies with pretty heavy eyes (forget bead chain) for the bones. Flies like the spawning shrimp (bunny not EP) worked well.
The crab eaters in Farquhar all wanted the same fly. A merkin style crab tied with barred legs and tan marabou or rabbit zonker "claws". Strangely the triggers turned down this fly when it had yellow legs and only wanted the straight black and white. I used EP fiber instead of sparkle yarn. I unfortunately only took pictures after theyd be reconstructed a few times from fish attacks but the same fly took Gt's, Bluefin, Permit, Triggers and Bones. If I had to pick one fly that would be it.
For the geets take black brush flies. We didnt really get fish committing on poppers or crease flies so id stick sub surface.
