What effect does this have, and how does CN know that they have applied the correct amount of poison only to cover that amount of water?

I can understand the poison no moving upstream, but this is afterall a river....
Dont quote me on this cause i might be completely wrong but from what i understand, Rotenone is all based on concentration. So they would have a certain concentration depending on the river/stretch/size etc that they will be retenoning. So its extremely important to have exactly the right concentration and in some cases this can be very tricky. . .

Once the concentration becomes to weak it will have no affect, so theoretically the rotenone should only effect the section of river they have targeted!

Looking forward to reading the article.

I'm not up to speed on this issue, except from chirps here and there on FT.

    A couple of questions:

1.I thought the targeted river in the Cedarberg was the Krom? Is that still on the agenda?

    2. Any news on the Dorps or any other potential targets?
Neil, not sure why the Krom wasn't targeted first. Suspect it may have been due to some threatened macroinvertebrates in the upper section. Read the full article regarding other rivers.

Dizzy, they supposedly neutralise the rotenone using potassium permaganate. This however can have its own issues if you read the literature on it.

Agreed, one of the reasons I wrote the article in the first place.

Nice article. Cape Nature response is a bit "whishy washy" I thought.

17kg of bass were removed from the Rondegat. I thought there would be more.

    Hey Buzz

Just interested here. Is that from the dead bass they are collecting floating in the river and on the banks?

    Did they kill everything?
