Default WHITE: The new hotspot color?

The other day I noticed that MC posted a pic with a couple of white bead nymphs.
About 10 years ago, the Italian team, gave me one or 2 of their nymphs, with a white thorax body.

Since then, I have always had a couple of nymphs with a white "hot spot".

I asked them about it, and their thinking about white, is that it creates contrast
just as a orange or a gold bead gives the fish something to zoom into, the white offers contrast to the rest of the fly, without "shouting" or alarming.
The white against the rest of the body, gives a distinct color variation, although it does not occur in the natural scheme of things.

How many of you use a bit of white in your flies?
what is experience ito the effectiveness?

The last couple of years, I have also added the UV white, which have proved very effecient.

Our guide @ Worlds in Finland in 2007 put us onto white flies - grayling can sometimes hammer them.
I think that since fish "feel" with their mouths & white is very visible, they take them to test to see if they are edible.

    UV is a different matter.

Well, for me the TVN is a killer with a white kop.

Here (not a very nice pic) I used a variation of both......and it works lekka IMG00736-20120222-2155.jpg

The Mcnymph also has a white kop

The TVN is a classic with the white, but then it could also be the pink that is a favourite with fish.
Maybe it is the white and pink combo.

White collars have been a long time favorite and especialy effective during the evenings when the light starts to go. Just received some white tungsten beads from Morne at African Fly Angler (free plug ) and will start to experiment. Will post pics...
    Around the steel no tortur'd worm shall twine, No blood of living insect stain my line;
Let me, less cruel, cast feather'd hook, With pliant rod athwart the pebbled brook,
Silent along the mazy margin stray, And with fur-wrought fly delude the prey

A little while ago, I was fishing on a trout stream and as soon as the sun started going down, the trout became lively.. they were feeding on little mays and we could just see little white mays on the water.. as soon as I cast a white fly onto the water, I was on.. after that I tied up plenty of white beaded CDC mays..
