    Default Darian's first flies @ 8y Old

My son has been bugging me to let him tie his own flies, I gave in and sat down with him. I showed him the steps on the black Brassie which I started for him but he did the steps himself.

The next fly (Green Brassie) he tied all on his own.

We will be fishing these at Vaal Streams tomorrow.

Looks as though you have a budding fly fisher there. That fly would sit well in anyones flybox. I hope he stays with the sport and enjoys many a fish taken by flies from his vise. Good luck young fellah stay well and Have Fun.

Truly amazing that an 8 year old would be into fly tying. Usually it is play station, t.v., etc. well done there mate. And well done on some nice tied flies.

No Fish to report back unfortunately but it was a good Father & Son day out, as we entered the water Darian got his first intro to the Vaal shuffle and took a dip chest deep. It was overcast with a cool breeze and the wet shirt he eventually got so cold we went back to the car and called it a day.

My first flies at 10 years old weren't even half as good as that. I would put those in my box any day.
An honest fisherman is a pretty uninteresting person.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and not only is he hungry but broke for the rest of his life as well.

Well done Michael on your encouragement.

To Darian, VERY, VERY, WELL TIED young man.

Mike, you know that as soon as he has hooked his first fish on his own tied fly, it's "tickets" for your fishing alone ever again.:wink:
It's not in the catching, it's in the learning something new.
