How is Jason doing at Babers pan? I might go fishing tomorrow!!!! Need a shot of my addiction! And what a great addiction to have!!! Fishing for carp!
I was wondering, is there a group already on fly talk for Carp? I would like to get some thing going… A group where we can share a few tips and foto’s of the days fishing experience .
Much like we have done now. It would also be like a fishing report.
What is your thoughts on this?

Hi Guys; We don't have Carp here in New Zealand "yet" but we are infested with Huge Koi Carp Great Red/Orange Beasties and I have Had great Fun fishing a Madam X Dry and Having a lot of fun.
Have any of you Carp Boys tried using a Dry for Carp?? The take is usually subtle and slow. Observation has shown that the Carp will mouth the fly and move off a couple of feet or so before actually swallowing the fly.
Fished for Carp in Midmar Dam shortly after Carp were discovered in the Dam. Mealie meal[SP] Pap laced with Mixed Herbs or Custard powder was the way to go.
YEP! Carp can be great fun. Best wishes in your endevours to get the ball rolling. Jax
A man is only as big as the things that annoy him.
I don't think that is quite right Jax.
There are definitely carp (not only goldfish types) in New Zealand waters.
They are classified as introduced pests and every fish caught must be destroyed.
There are organised freshwater 'hunts' organised on a regular basis to try get numbers down.
Only on the north island as far as I know.
Interesting how Trout was introduced, and became part of NZ "Life".
Took over all of NZ's waters and considered an asset.
Another fish "carp" that is introduced and classified as a pest and must be destroyed.
Makes me think off a something I once heard "A Squirrels is a rat with a good PR"
Such a fine line we walk?

Depends on who you talk to Korrie!
There are enough green kooks over there that would be happy to eradicate them all.
Only be happy to have their little galaxis and inangas in the water.
Big difference between the carp and the trout though - lets be honest about it!
Where have you seen trout ruin water anywhere close to what carp do?
But you are right - good PR and you could sell your farts as perfume!

Hi dogtooth, have to agree with Korrie….
Bottom line, Carp are here to stay in South African waters. Why not catch them. Carp are by far one of the most difficult fish to catch. The take is what it is al about. No need to explain, will not matter to you any way.
I prefer to feel something at the business end…. If you like catching trout, yellow fish, what ever you are catching that side. I respect that…..! This thread might not be for you… No disrespect t towards you…
Elke diertjie het sy plesiertjie!!!!!
