    Default Loop Evotec X grip

Does anyone have experience with these grips? Im interested in the rod but not sure how this will feel after a good few hours.

    Hi Peter

I built a Sage 99 for Darryl Lampert with a hexagonal grip like that, and he loves it (unless he is lying to me ). It's actually very comfortable, even after extended use. He will be better to answer, but he fished it long hours in NZ and on Highland Lodge, and he is very happy with it. I did another for Peter McGregor on his 2-weight TXL, but I'm not sure how much he fishes it.

I have fished with a light rod with the grip.
    Very comfortable.

    Peter,

"My" idea for this grip came from looking at a picture of the Loop rod. I have large hands and a factory fly rod grip is typically too small for my hand. This is not really a problem in freshwater as your grip tends to be quite light. In my very limited saltwater experience, I found when casting a 12wt off a boat that the rod would slip in my hand. The hex grip totally eliminates this slip, even when your hands are wet and full of fish slime.

As Mario has said, I only have it on my 5wt Sage 99. I find it extremely comfortable to use over a days fishing and because the grip is so positive you can relax your hand. You are welcome to cast mine if you want to although it is quite a bit fatter than a standard grip. Drop me a pm if interested.
