    Default SAGE on Sale

See on Stillwater Outfitters they have the Sage Vantage and Sage Flight on Sale for $180-00 and $150 respectively (4 & 5wt)
    $150 x R8.93=R 1341-00
Shipping owuld probably be around R250 (Have no idea) and tax?

Would that be delivered to your door for under 2K? - sounds cheap....

    Stok: R1341.00
    Clearance fee: R30.00
    Shipping: R267.00 ($30) - R535.00 ($60)
    14% op waarde (R1341): R187.74
Total depending on shipping: R1825.74 or R2093.74.

With these type of sales you always have to gauge what % ito money you're willing to risk by importing it yourself. Some items are just not worth the risk IMHO.

Flight has been discontinued, so no idea what they retailed for. Vantage is +-R3600 afaik.

Both those rods have been discontinued.

They are both 2 piece rods and the shipping will be higher as a result.

auhw - explain - I thought shipping was a standard charge for the type of shipping you prefer.
Are you refering to - 2 piece = bigger parcel?

I am also trying to work out why you would want to buy an *discontinued* lower-end rod?

Because it is still better than a local higher-end rod.

Can you suggest something better than the 4wt Sage Vantage for 2K?

We can't be certain that the shipping will be more, but the tubes are relativity the same thickness for both 4 piece and 2 piece rods, thus the volume of a 2 piece rod is going to be more, as most shippers charge by weight or volumetric weight, whichever is the larger. For fly rods it will almost always be the volumetric weight.

Agree with GGY, for the extra couple of Rands, you could get a current model with better technologies and production procedures.
And think about it, these rods would land for R2000'ish, for an extra R800, you could have the Approach, or R1500 a Response.
Also, as we have experienced, there is no real resale value for these rods, unlike the top end rods that hold their value well.

However, having said all that, if you want to get into the brand, then this a good stepping stone, the rods will always be good and even if you end up buying a top-end rod at a later date, they will always have a place in your arsenal.
When we run a "close-out" sale at the end of a range, we always sell all the rods quickly, and know that the new owners will get many years of enjoyment out of them.

    regards
