i think i can count the number of times i've fished a RW on one hand. for visibility i've always gone with a #12/14 EHC

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Any high visibility buggy looking fly will do under those conditions. As always, choose something that you can pick up immediately after it has landed on the surface. If you cant see your fly, you are wasting your time and may as well switch to a nymph. Your chances will be better that way.

agreed. the 'buggy looking' bit is the key though. but i can assure you that the next time i get to fish a trout stream, i'm going to give the RW a little more time. that and the DDD

I cant see a DDD or any other fawn coloured fly under those conditions. RAB comes a close second in that I just cant see the damn fly and it also tends to drown too quickly in ramping water, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but that aint quite dry fly fishing, is it?

All the above r all good but,

I'd go for a Klipspringer caddis.

I like fishing suggestive patterns.Whether u fish dries or nymphs.

U can cover so may insects with a "all purpose flies)

Is it to broad or do u guys think that fishing very realistic patterns in a spesific hatch is a better bet?
