On 1st July, two new waters open to members: check out the details within the memberzone on the club webpage.
The last week has seen the first real winter weather: fiercely cold mornings, but warm sunny days. Until a weak ago the fishing on club dams was really great. It remains to be seen how much this cold weather will slow things down. Water temperature is typically around 8 degrees.
Some of our waters received a top-up stocking of 50 fish per ha in the last 10 days. We are seeing those 10" stockies being caught already. Depending on how much of a beating they take, we may close waters or impose a rods per week ceiling for a short while to allow them to settle in before being hooked.
Note that the map to Barlbarton has been updated with another odometer reading check to help members who have been missing the turnoff.
Yus, I cant wait to fish that new dam that is openning in the Dargle area again.. Mavela was a favourite club dam before its new owners kicked the club out a few years back. There are sure to be some real lunkers around that dam wall this winter! #frothing!
The owner of Mavela has been away, so we havent been able to open it for booking just yet. As soon as we can contact him to warn him to expect fishermen it will open. We may still be able to achieve this by 1 July, but you cant yet book the water online.
Note that we have throttled back the maximum number of rods per week, to avoid a mad rush that might upset the owner.
As far as big fish go: It was more than 4 years ago that it was stocked previously, so while it is not impossible that there will be the odd lunker, the chances are slim, I'm afraid.
The NFFC quarterly results for the 3 months ended May 2013 were posted to the club website today. Members will find this under "news" inside the password protected Member Zone of the website. Go have a look to see where the 6 pound plus fish have been coming from!
