We will have to take the length and width off tail and body the fish compared to the nose( where you hooked it) in consideration as well. If it moves at a certain speed the power used to get at that speed was due to a side movement from tail placing a force on the nose in the opposite direction. So the leverage force on nose forced by the tail will be more on to the tippet than the moving force going forward.
Who wants to add that force to the equation. It looks like it is pure luck that we land any fish from all these considerate calculations.

Eish, you mathematicians will have a lot racing through your heads the next time you hook a decent fish, just remember on which side is the the reel handle

Another way to approach it is to choose the tippet you are comfortable with.
If you keep on breaking off, step up a leader.
If you land all the fish, step down a diameter.
You will be surprised on how much more careful you fish, and how much more you concentrate, when you step down a diameter, and then again. But you will also be surprised on how many more fish you will catch, by concentrating more and fishing more careful, with the thinner diameter
