    Default small scale yellowfish

    Hi guys,

I spent the last weekend in Luneburg fishing for small scale yellowfish.. I had an amazing time and caught a truck load of fish, the techneque we used was very interesting.. 15-18ft leaders, long casts and all the while keep in contact with the flies. We fished the slower pools and fished the flies deep. Horst(our guide) told us that this way of fishing is a good way of going for big small mouth yellows in winter, has anyone tried this before ?

Here are some pics of the fishing

Brilliant fish, Horst has access to lovely water.

We fish similarly in winter and you do get good fish, the size of which depends on location. You don't need 18' leaders however.

I have to agree with Bertu in terms of length of leader. As he showed me on the Vaal, sometimes you need a 20' , 6X leader, and in the same day you get them on a 10' - 2X leader. ?????

I suppose it all boils down to where the fish are, and if you can cast a loooong ??? ( what is considered long ) cast on 18' leader with tippet of 4' of 6X with a nymph on the end and find the fish, WELL DONE.
It's not in the catching, it's in the learning something new.

    Good work!

I have never had success in the winter for them.

What flies worked and what type of a retrieve?
