Is the Koma a machined or cast reel?

Semi cast, semi machined - that could be the price difference to the other 2? I think they are all die cast.

Incidentally, not any of the 3 reels you posted are EXACTLY the same. A lot of difference in porting etc, although the main design is the same, I agree.

    Kinda but not really
If I would guess the Vision Koma is the original and the other two are rip offs. All of the above reels are most probably manufactured in China or Korea or whatever and copied by other factories selling them as generics. So, who ever places an order with these factories can have their specific name added to the product and can therefore sold as such. As for the quality of the manufacturing thats a totally different story as the generics are not as good as the originals due to substandard engineering. We see this with other reels specifically the Xplorer Eclipse II series which were rip offs of the Sage 3000 reels. Due to inferior engineering the spool never fit snugly into the reel cage which created a gap that line could slip through upon spooling line off or reeling in. As you can imagine it will result in large amounts of frustration while fishing. I have seen this first hand. So, while you might think that you being ripped off by the name brand companies you are actually also paying for the quality of a specific product.

Mario, China's rule regarding patent infringement is very relaxed. So, a slight deviation from the original design is not frowned upon.

The difference between casting and machining also causes that. Machining adds to the cost - hence the possible higher cost of the Vision irt the other 2 fully cast reels.

Maybe Richard Simpkins can confirm from the BOX as to where the Vision Koma is actually made?

Just because one thing LOOKS similar to another does not mean that it is the same or made using the same materials/parts/tolerances.

    LAUNCH diameters are 75 & 85mm. http://www.basilmanning.co.za/fly-se...er-launch.html
    Smallest Koma diameter = 91mmhttp://www.visionflyfishing.com/?page_id=33&c=31&pid=86

    Not the same thing.

(Sort of like *real* Large C&F waterproof flyboxes versus the copy with is a lot cheaper, but does not use anywhere close to the same actual ONE-PIECE gasket seal on the C&F, is made from cheaper plastic, inferior foam AND leaks.)

    Interesting......
A case in point is the Explorer "clicker", which looks remarkably similar to the now discontinued Sage 3000 series. Very easy to quickly tell the difference if you have both in your hands at the same time....they quite different.
