Hi Saflyfish, the top end Drifts are retailing at R4650 across the board which is on par with other HD cameras on the market, but the price difference becomes a serious factor as everything is build into the Drifts (wifi, display screen, rotating lens, waterproofing, time tag function etc). The difference with them is that with the FREE shoulder mount included the only other add on which you may need is an additional battery for to cover a full days fishing. I know the battery life is approx 3 hours of full filming. Have a look through the link above and i'm pretty certain youll see why i love mine so much!
intersting that Polaroid is getting into the market, from the your link kori, i can see serious difference between the two, but again each to their own, and i love mine.
I must say I have been a fan of GoPro for a while (although never owned an action cam) but once you get the Cam & wifi & remote & and and and it starts to add up.
This Drift looks great, with everything included!! If I had the cash I would get one right away. as I would use it for fishing, quad biking, and when I do skidpan / Gymkana days
I am in the market for an action camera at the moment.
The Drift looks great but for that price I would rather get the GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition which costs R 5300.00, which features 4K at 15fps, 2.7K at 30fps and 1080p at 60fps, Plus it is waterproof to 60m and the Black Edition includes a Wifi Remote.
i think personally both cameras are great, the main differences between the Drift Ghost HD camera and the GoPro Hero 3 Black edition (which are both the top of the ranges of both brands) are as follows :
The GoPro Hero 3 Black edition retails at R5200 where as the Drift Ghost retails are R4650
The GoPro does not come with an LCD screen and costs just over R1000 extra if you want to veiw what your recording/shooting.
The Drift cameras comes with a rotating lens (allowing mounting in multiple positions) whereas with GoPro, you have to mount the camera exactly verticle or upside down or you are left with a skewed image.
The Ghost comes with the video tagging option which enables the user to back record up to 10 minutes after an event has occurred where the GoPro doesnt have this function at all, it may be something they intorduce in the future but for now not.
GoPro does come with an underwater housing which waterproofes the camera to 60m where the Ghost is waterproof as is to a depth of 3m. An underwater housing is available for the Drift at an additional R625 and waterproofes the camera to 60m. I havent place a case on mine at any time of use yet.
The remote for the Ghost indicates whichever mode the camera is in with the LCD lighting where the GoPro's remote does not. The remote also indicates with a flashing red light when the camera is recording so the user is aware that they are not missing the shot.
GoPro hero 3 does have an option of recording up to 4k which the Ghost does not, your correct. This function however requires a T.V or computer that can run 4k videos which are highly expensive and this mode is normally used for production purposes and not really for home veiwers.
When i was in the market for my camera i saw this video amoung others where guys do various testings with the different brands.
For me the most appealing features of the Go Pro Hero 3 Black Edition are the 60 frames per second in Full HD which allows super smooth slow mode playback as well as the 4k recording which does require a high end computer and screen but the quality is mind blowing.
You justify the point of purchasing a Drift Ghost over a Go Pro Hero 3 BE, it has a lot of features that the Go Pro doesn't.
I still have 3 months before I decide on which one to purchase, it might be the Go Pro Hero 3 BE or if I come to my senses and be realistic of what I am using it for it might be the Drift Ghost.

Some exciting and sad news, as I have recently taken up the position of JHB sales manager permanently with Drift Innovation and their action cameras. I cannot unfortunately supply the units directly to public such as before.
It needs to be said that my offer of a Ghost and complimentary shoulder mount, as mentioned above is null and void going forward.
