    Default Latex Shrimp SBS

Finally got around to doing an SBS ...

    Materials:

Hook: Saltwater hooks. Size 1 or 2
Thread: 3/0 or 6/0 i'm using hot orange
    Eyes: Bead chain or Dumbbell
Body: Latex Strip (can cut from latex washing gloves)
Under body: 3M 5mm medical tape (from Dischem)
    Wing: Marabou
    Tail: Calf tail
    Eyes: Burned Mono
    Feelers: sililegs
    Pincers: Calf tail
    Ribbing: wire or thread

Step 1 - Lay down thread base and tie in dumbbell eyes:

Step 2 - Tie in two bunches of calf tail fibers for pincers:

Step 3 - Tie in the mono eyes over the calf tail:

I like to burn bobbles at both ends so they can't pull out easily, as per image below.
Also add the silli legs at this stage, Once done take tread back up the shank.

Step 4 - Tie in the calf tail fibers to form a tail and add the latext strip & ribbing wire:

I've also returned the thread down the shank to the eyes here, but its probably a good idea to build the under body first before doing this.

Step 5 - Build up under body:

Step 6 - Wrap the latext over the under body to form a segmented body and tie off:

Step 7 - Tie in a small clump of maribou:

Step 8 - Cut off tail and colour with marker as desired:

That was the orange / sand prawn style, can tie in a number of other styles though, for example the olive / mud prawn style below:

Here are a number of them:

Not fished a JAM fly yet, or had a change to throw thi latext shrimp at grunter (i live in jhb), so would not be in a position to comment. Wave garrick & blacktail certainly like this latext shrimp though
