    Default Rooibos Cased Caddis

    A lekke indigenous fly

    The Rooibos Caddis
The Rooibos Caddis was developed more out of boredom than anything else really. The larvae of many species of caddis flies make protective cases of silk decorated with gravel, sand, twigs or other debris. The Rooibos Caddis pattern, based on a cased caddis, will have many purists frowning because of the extra “flavour” added by the rooibos tea used for the caddis casing

    Step 1
    Select a long shank hook
    Step 2
Add a tungsten bead, I used 3mm, and leadwrap more or less halfway down the hook shank,
    Step 3
Cut a piece of green antron yarn and burn the end to create the head
    Step 4
Tie in the antron yarn to create the head

    Step 5
Select a suitable feather, I used Mallard, and tie in around the head

    Step 6
Select small/medium chenille in a suitable colour
Tie in the chenille. At this stage the fly is already fish-able....

    Step 8
Cover the chenille body with a suitable glue

    Step 9
Now we add some local flavour

    Step 10

    Step 11
Roll the fly between your fingers making sure the tea is nice and compact. Repeat and cover with a few strands of UV Knotsense.

    DONE!

    Quite brilliant Mr Humpy!

Brilliant! I can see a few other possible variations of this like a Camel Filter or Berg Twak Caddis.

This fly must be band as it is illegal to flavor your fly. Especially the fist cast.
