Sounds like the breakfast of Champions!!! Nothing like a bit of pepper steak at 6:30am to get the stomach working!!!
Remind me never to fish downwind of you Pierre!!!

I know you Guy's are going to laugh now - but here goes.

When I go fishing I carry only two things - a packet of pre- sliced Biltong that I make myself - (no butchers in Canada making the stuff) and a Kelly Kettle for tea. see http://www.kellykettle.com/ .

I got a biltong box while I was in the UK - from the SA shops and found the Kelly Kettle's attributes fantastic while fishing in Ireland with a mate. Both of these Items normally have the locals staring and shaking their heads, a few may have a cup of tea - but havent found one brave enough to try the later.

When swimbo and the boy's come fishing with me - then everything changes of-course

OK, so no one take offense at this one.

You’ve hiked a full day and done some fishing in between, you’ve made camp and its time to light the fire and get some dinner ready. The evening rise is coming on nicely and some pops off to catch dinner. He/She returns with a couple of 10 inch Rainbows.

You clean them, butterfly them, and give them a good squeeze of lemon and a little salt. You put them on twigs and twist them over the fire for a few minutes, then sever them straight from the fire onto some thickly sliced farm bread, give them a good twist of black pepper and accompany it with a piping cup of black coffee with shot of Bells.

Sounds good but I would prefer a couple of 14" or 16"'s as the 10"'s are too much work for too little reward !

    Gogga,

Do they make small Kelly's ? I have one but it's way to large to carry around in a rucksack. For longer hikes I carry a MSR Titanium kettle and a MSR Pocket Rocket stove.

Both are very light and work well.

    Regards,
    Darryl

    Hey Darryl,

Yea, they make the two sizes - the large on that you have and a smaller version. I have both, but always take the smaller one when I go fishing (about the size of a two litre coke bottle) weighs bugger all, and just fill it up with steam water when I need it.

    All the best
    Mike

    Thanks Mike,

Mine is around that size as well but with all the camera gear, first aid kit, raincoat, fleece and other junk I carry it's still a bit large I also still have this thing about boiling water in ally, altzheimers and all that. Although from what I have read you need to do it for a couple of hundred years to have any effect Getting back to food, I normally carry a packet of biltong with me on the streams. When my Dad and I were still hunting we used to make our own using a Sonbessie, which was essentially a cardboard box with a 100 watt globe at the bottom and some metal strips across the top for hanging your meat - drooling just thinking about it.

    Regards,
    Darryl
