Default NFFC, NFDS, and others around Maritzburg

With recent casting clinics, a fly tying workshop, a river clinic, and the like, there is a renewed fly-fishing buzz in and around Maritzburg.

The NFDS (Natal fly-dressers society), has a guest tier at their October meeting, and has something bigger lined up with the NFFC and other clubs for the November get together.

NFDS has been meeting on the second Monday of every month since the 1980's: unbroken! So its October 14th, and November 11th.The meetings are held at the old Westonians club house inside the Royal show grounds in PMB, and start at 7 pm. Bring a few cold ones, and your fly tying kit: it is open to the public.

A very successful meeting held on Monday 11th Nov....close to 100 people in attendance. We must do this again soon!

In other news:...yesterday we opened the valve on "Eric's dam" to drop the level by around 1 to 1,5 metres. This will expose at least some of the Bass eggs to the roasting sun...part of our ongoing battle against the spread of Bass in KZN, in the interests of maintaining our lovely Trout waters. The plan is to do this every year, and in so doing severely reduce the Bass population. This week the 9 inch "baby bass guzzling" trout were stocked. Coupled with the "kill all Bass" policy, we could just get this thing right!

The club rivers are receiving rain almost daily. Best to check out conditions before you head out, or if you cant, by all means chance it, but have a plan B.
