    Default Breede River Small Mouth

    I live in Swellendam so i am next to the Breede

    I would like to know what flies work great for Small mouth bass and where to look for them i got excess to lots of farms along the river.

    All help would be apreciated thanks.

    Flippie:

    Things that have worked for me in Clanwilliam area are woolly buggers and Fritz's in black, chartreuse and olive. Don't be scared to use large flies. Also, try baitfish patterns like zonkers.

    Where to look for them: They are bass, so fish the structure, especially hard structure like rocks and cliffs.

    Thanks for the help so far

    There whas a thread last year of a guy fishing in the breede somewhere between Swellendam an Bonnievale above a wall in the current and had good catches of small mouth i did a search but couldnt find anything.

    I somebody remember please paste it here thanks

    Hi Flippie....big wooly buggers in brown with lots of hackle and rubber legs.look for rapids running into a pool....also drift along the side and cast poppers into palmiet edges.good luck...

    crab patterns in the rapids, riffles etc. for small mouth bass.
    The small mouth likes the moving water, more than the still water.
    The Large mouth likes the still water more than the faster.
    Another small tip.
    Fish 20 pound tippet. straight from your fly line. I used to fish much thinner on my Breede trips.
    then one of the local Bass Masters, gave me above advice.
    You will be casting a lot to structure, palmiet, tree roots, etc.
    If you are stuck, you need a strong tippet to try and pull your fly free.
    Weed guard on the flies might be a good idea.
