Except for "hiding" the high levels of e.coli and phosphates in the river, when flushing it would also dislodge most of the snot (old man's beard)......stuff is like a underwater forest this side. But I wonder if smallmouths don't benefit from this? I pick a piece of the snot up it is full of mayfly nymphs, bloodworms and even the odd cased caddis. It gives them their two favourite stuff.....shelter and food. Fishing the channels between them is the only way, and doubling your line from a 3.5kg tippet to 6 solves the big fish running into it....and fishing one fly. Not perfect, and not textbook stuff, but you adapt to your conditions.
