Articulated Fish spine

I don't know how long this system has existed, but I do like it.
The life like movement of this fly is amazing. Might be a bit tricky to tie and shape, but must be worth it.

clever idea, very easy to make with thick piano wire.
I dont think that it is difficult to tie and shape.
You do one section at a time, and tie in the next section and the next.
All with some dubbing brushes.
(i did not watch the video, but that is how it looks to me)

PS: I think that Gerrit did something similar, but not so many components

I tried tying this fly last night and I can say with confidence, it will take some practice. Mine looks like a mongrel stray that lost some hair in a fight. The main thing is to find the correct synthetic to use that will cover the joints better, I tried Mirror Image as I thought it may have the correct stiffness and bulk. EP fibres are the next venture, have seen it used and looked great.

Thanks! I could try my hand a SBS, but I will only do that once I feel I have perfected it which could take some time.

I only finished the fly at 11pm last night, so maybe after work I may get a gap to test it in the pool if the sun is still around by the time I get hom for a change.

I found a clip yes, it does look bedonnerd, and I've been on a whole baitfish/profile fly kick the last few weeks, this makes my flies look like they should be retired.

I'm going to play with it and see if I can't make my own segments, time and effort involved permitting ofcourse.

Cool, that would be great, did you also use a brush for the body ?

I really need to get myself a brush tool, my baitfish tying requires it urgently.

Frizz Fibre from H2O works fantastic for spinning.

Not too stiff as the Steve Farrar, not too soft. trims easily.
available in a plenty of colors.

I buy a dozen or so of the white Frizz Fibre at a time.
Then tie up plenty of flies, all in white and color it to the color I want at the water , with permanent markers.

I will give it a bash! I was concerned that it may be diffucult to stack the fibres so as not to fold back to much like a brush fly and make it look like a wet cat in the water. lol

But lets try it anyway!
