So what we are saying is basically we need an upper water coloum and a deep UWB( Ultimate Woolly Bugger). The deep one needs to push more water( hen hackel) and the surface one needs to wiggle(CDC)

Gents just bear in mid that the UWB still needs to look like a WB in this case a fresh water WB. Tail and hackeled body with or without a bead. A brush fly is a diffrent fly and we can maby do an ultimate brush fly later on.

Wouldn't the targeted specie dictate the type of Wooly Bugger?
What are you trying to imitate? Baitfish or some huge fly?
How deep do you want to fish it?
    Flash or no flash?
    Eyes or not?

    Various types:

Red humpy lets use the top fly as typical WB for this thread. It is the classic WB pattern. We should not drift off too much as this would make this impossible to get down to a design. So two flies one weighted for deep and one not weighted for surface based on your top pic.

I am deffinatly going to tie a couple of the second fly for my personal stash. Do you have a SBS?

The movement that the CDC/marabou has, depends on the speed you strip back.

My ultimate WB is always olive! Bead on head, Marabou for tail, chenile for body (all in olive), long hackle in light colour. The tail must not be to long. Will try to post a photo later when at PC again, after the cricket.

Maybe you should fish the the full fly line retrieve as well. Might catch something on that as well

Even your "unweighted" bugger should have a bead or a cone (for really light flies)

Buggers don't have eyes, if it has eyes, it's a baitfish and not a bugger.
