Started the morning at 4:30 on the rocks...
1st cast with a popper and a slimey pick handle barracuda launch like a missile out of the water as he hit the popper... Nice start as its also a new species on the fly rod for me...
10m later a swirl under the popper and its fish on with a nice queen of around 2kg taking the fly line out into the backing...
Put the fly rod down and work the big rods with poppers and stick baits to see if we can not pick up bigger fish...
At around 7:00 with humidty very high and temps around 31C already I decided to pick up the fly rod again...
Well couple of casts and I have another swirl and I am into my backing again.
After a great fight on the 9wt GLoomis NRX this nice queen is landed...
Did not measure or weigh her as I wanted to get her back into the water as soon as possible...
Back she goes to get bigger for the next fight...
Spend some time reviving her and it was great watching her swim off...
Definately my PB fish on fly to date.
The GLoomis NRX 9wt performed brilliantly.
The Hatch 9 has a super smooth drag.
