New to the arsenal - 2011

[Gerrit Viljoen]

This is a very effective Nymph used by the Czechs and others worldwide.Some of you might recognize this fly, it features in the dvd "Flyfishing and Flytying" I changed one or two materials but is hardly worth mentioning.This fly has some interesting features which gabbed me immediately.

1)Body Quills ~ hot spot in orange and brown body ~ nice contrasting trigger.
2)CDC overwing ~ could be anything from still born wings, legs or air bubbles.
3)Pearl dubbing ~ tied in on top to emulate emergence or attracter. (The violet in the dubbing could help in murkey water)
4)The thorax/head is brown Squirrel SLF also a very nice darker infront trigger.Remember, the very 1st thing that change whith emergence is the thorax colour,then wingscases splitting open,etc,etc.

Here is the complete dressing for those interested.

Quill Nymph

Hook: Scud #14.
Bead: 2.4mm Gold Tungsten.
Thread: White 14/0.
Tail: 3x Dun Micro Fibbets.
Body tag: Orange Body Quill.
Body: Brown Body Quill.
Change thread or colour in thread: 70 denier Blue dun to match CDC.
Overwing: Beige CDC in split thread.
Flash: Any pearl dubbing will suffice tied in on top.
Head: Brown SLF Squirrel.
