looks like it gives a nice actions, i guess its a similar concept to the magic head, or simply tying a sequin in front of the fly.
Would be interesting if someone made a video of all the options swimming next to each other in a swimming pool.
Whilst searching the Web for a means to add some extra movement to my flies I came across the Pulse Disc by Brinefly. It is not a new concept as I recall reading that plastic discs were added to flies to add movement in a local saltwater Fly fishing book, can't recall what book it was. Plus there is a few similar products for bass fishing on the market.
Have a look at their site for some videos and photos of these things in action

I would really like to try these discs but I am not going to fork out R300 odd buck for a bit of plastic unless of course there is no DIY method to recreate this.
So help me out. How can we remake this for cheap? Cut out Plastic Coke bottles?

That would be nice. From the videos I have seen this gives a fly a lot more action than a magic head plus there is no need to tie it into the fly.
I have already got my first two DIY versions cut out ready to hit the water. Used the top quarter of a 500ml coke bottle.
I guess there would be some tuning required on the water to get the correct fly to disc ratios. Will keep this thread updated with my findings.

Been there, done that, the problem with the bottle plastic is that once you bend it past a certain point, it fractures, loses it's tensile strength and it ends up breaking.
You will also have to make the holes in it by melting, any other way ends up damaging the two eyes and it simply fractures around the holes.

I know someone who makes these out of false nails!
Think that if you get the dimensions wrong it may end up spinning your tippet into knots on the cast. I like the movement in the water, look yummy.
Use a variety of different sized leather punches ( or bevelled steel pipes) and melt drill the holes with two needles tied to a dowel stick 3mm apart and heated in a flame. Punching the curved plastic on the concave side over the end grain of a block of wood gives a clean cut. Try warming the plastic with a heat gun( favourite tool!) and cooling over a curved cold surface (Steel pipe).
These flies might be more air resistant when casting but would be fine trolled (Shhhh)from a boat.
Is this not too much loering and trolling already?

Those propellers stuck between hook eye and say a bead works well too!

Jimmy the Shark Man brought some in and they work as well as they claim.
If you fail at DIY then StreamX will have stock in a week or two.
Will be a hell of a lot less than R300
