    Default Ceres Arch

Following recent comments I'd be interested to hear how many of you guys have actually caught trout at Ceres Arch?

    And techniques/ flies that worked?

I understand that most guys only fish in the area around the dam wall- how many of you guys have actually fished properly around the inlet on the other side of the dam? And of that- how many of you guys have actually tubed that area?

    Thanks

    Kevin

    Hi Kev
I,ve fished there 4 times and caught three fish. The first time we only fished from the side. I caught a beautiful rainbow and Lost 2 more. I was using a dragon immitation. The wind was howling and actually blowing the water from the waterfall "backwards" when it gusted. The second time we were on a croc and fished all over the dam, inlet, in the tree section but got nothing, got off on the shallow sandbanks and fished those with no luck. Paddled back to shore and fished the area by the waterfall and landed another 2. These fish fell to a black wooly bugger with an erratic retrieve. I was fishing a sinking line and waited a good while before retrieving. The fish are extremely strong and have beautiful colouring. The other times we tubed and had no success. We did cover a lot of water. The water was flat calm.
    Cheers

If my 20 year old report is still to be trusted, I can definitely confirm that there are trout there

Thanks Rols- it sounds like the waterfall area is one of the serious hotspots? What kind of size were the fish you caught?

    Hi Kevin,

Absolutely a stunning venue, not easy fishing but well worth a visit - beautiful fish. Try the launch area where the waterfall comes in on the left. During my first visit to the dam 4 years back I got 4 fish here in as many casts, all in the 1 kg. range. Consequently I've visited the dam on probably 5 occasions and caught on average a fish per visit. The second waterfall can only be accessed by tube approx. 800m towards the inlet on the left.

The dam is very deep with lots of structure in the form of big boulders. Well sized largemouth bass is also caught on occasion - probably frozen stiff at this time of the year. BE AWARE of the Koekedouw monster - Africa's version of Loch Ness, start shaking as I type. Below a few pics:

hehehe- Thanks Philip- Blanking on Saturday is not an option and judging by the forecast the Koekedouw monster should not be a factor either!
