The $700 plus jobs wins the shootout.
But value for money the Greys XF2 @ $290 and the Winston Passport @ $239 wins hands down if you consider they both scored over a 100 overall points. Sure as hell is a big difference between $300 and $800. Don't want to open a can of worms here, but are those rods really worth the extra $500 if you take everything into account here?

I would love to see a "blind test" like this being done over here with what we have available over here.

But the question is would something like this feature in a local mag with them risking losing out on advertising space, etc? Or should something like this be done independently and feature on a forum or a blog?

It has been done by complete flyfisherman.Its all subjective..They for instance found the Stcroix legend elite to have a worse finish than the explorer guide series...There is just no way that possible.And as part of the test looks should not be factored,it should be feel,fishablility etc.

I must say.I bought a z-axis 3wt some time back and use it for small streams etc.In the beginning i really hated the stick because I struggled to make it work.
Well I have learned to fish it and now enjoy it more than any stick i own.Maybe it has made me a better or worse caster i dont know.I am sure if I pick up a zenith or the likes i will also struggle in the start but once you learn a rod it should do what its made to do..So judging a rod on first touch and cast could end up being judged purely on you capabilities or style

I too have a (9 ft) 3wt Z-Axis and absolutely love the rod. As to the Hardy Zenith (2nd in this test by one point), I have a 10 ft 3wt which is the best light rod I have ever used. Everyone who has ever tried mine has also loved, or at least liked it, including those who do not like long rods. Just bought myself a 10 ft 7wt Zenith (super light @ 3.5 oz/100g) for serious Stillwater (boat) fishing...
