    Yes I know, I was making a tongue in cheek suggestion that you might have tried to rip the fly out of the tree, in a similar way that a bass angler strikes a fish. I have seen more than a few rods break while trying to jerk a stuck fly from a bush. Most fly rods should withstand an aggressive strike into a fish, but an aggressive strike into a tree... hmmm... risky , as you have seen
