    Hi Buzz

Please do. i think as soon as the guys start fishing this venue again, things should pick up and we should get allot of feedback.

    Cheers

    Howzit Pierre!

I will continue to do what I can. I hope guys respond sooner rather than later to highlight fishermen as role-players in the policy making process. I would hate to see a "Sonstraal" type scenario happening at Zandvlei. Trust me, this can easily happen. There are lots of duck-huggers around.

By the way, I am interested in "any" data. It does not matter how old it is. The fishing history of Zandvlei is also being documented.

    YES and YES!!!!

( I was there yesterday ... walking my dogs in the bird sanctuary part .... I was disgusted at the amount of filth that had washed ashore as a result of the NW winds!! )
I always wanted to be somebody, but now I realize I should have been more specific.

Zandvlei must be getting a good flush with these rains. I hope that the top canal will be in better condition. All they need to do after the rains is clear all the rubbish, but the water quality must be improving. I look forward to a good season there, like to also catch the odd carp again

    Cheers

    Hi Buzz
Someone I know, went to Fishing Specialists a while back and was chatting to the guys there. They were saying they fish it regularly, but don't talk about it. Maybe they can help with catch reports as well. If you in the area might be worth contacting them?
    Cheers
    Hope this helps
Behold the fisherman. he riseth early in the morning and disturbeth the whole household. mighty are his preperations. he goes forth full of hope and when the day is ended, he returneth smelling of strong drink and the truth is not with him. originator unknown.

I know it's hard to believe but the water quality gets worse with the heavy rain. The feeder rivers to Zandvlei are highly polluted with runoff from roads etc. The vlei dillutes it a bit with the opening of the mouth allowing the sea to flush it out. As far as rubbish is concerned, more volunteers are needed to assist with cleanups.

Thanks for the heads up Rols. I must remind everyone that all information volunteered will not be made public. If people don't want to supply me with the info they can contact CNC or the Zandvlei Trust directly. I am busy with a catch return template to make things easier. PM me if you want a copy. Thanks to those guys (you know who you are) who have kindly volunteered their services and catch returns.

ALL CATFISH ARE TO BE EXTERMINATED.
It seems that the catfish are eating juvenile leeries and mullet. CNC has volunteered to collect dead catfish at a central drop off area as long as catch data like location, time, temp etc are provided. They will even provide black bags.

And how exactly do they intend exterminating the catfish

By relying on the co-operation of fishermen who are concerned with the well-being of Zandvlei. (Captured fish should not be returned to the water.) Extermination might be too strong a word, reducing the numbers would be a better term.
