Default Build thread - blue water fly boat - Competition 25 centre console

    Hi fellow Saffa's

I have a new boat on order to chase blue water pelagics over here in Sydney so once it gets here if any of you venture through our terrorist filled city and feel like a fish give me a shout. VB is not as good as Castle but comes close...and the fishing is not half bad either. Primarily target blue water pelagics off the shelf, black, blue and striped marlin as well as mahi mahi in summer and makos, blue sharks, yellowfin and Bluefin tuna in winter. Would be good to give some of you guys a look at that end of the fly fishing spectrum if you find yourself stuck in Sydney sick of wife's shopping, relatives and such.

Boat is a 25ft centre console from Competition Boats in Miami.

Initially just wanted to check on the forum whether there is any general interest in a build thread. These are popular in the US with boating enthusiasts who have an interest in such things.

If so will put up spec and post pics as the new build progresses.

I'm coming to Melbourne via Terrorville soon, please crack the code for the Tuna in preparation, see you next year...

Post some pics, would love to see, bit of a boat brat myself, there are some seriously nice toys in Port Phillip bay/harbour/wharf.

OTT : What happened with your Papua trip, I know Auzzies aren't necessarily the most loquacious of folk, but you've been damn near Sphinx like...

Wie is jou fokn Aussie ?:biggrin::biggrin:

West Papua was a hell of a trip - hard and wild as hell and full of intrigue and incredibly interesting. Have held back on pics as an article will be submitted on the trip shortly and we don't want to compromise that.

Some pics of the boat I will be getting is att.

They sprayed on the gelcoat yesterday, allowed it to dry till tacky and then laid up the first layer of fibreglass cloth to ensure a good bond to the gelcoat. Below pics are of the hull in the mold as they do this. From now they will continue to lay glass till the hull is thick enough and then will insert the foam stringer system and layer that with fibreglass too until very strong and rigid.

Colour is ice blue side and white bottom as well as gunwale top. Deck is ice blue as is underside of the hardtop.

They certainly get cracking once they have started !!!

That's a beautiful boat! Where do you launch from? I spent quite a bit of time in the Elizabeth Bay area when I was in Syd. Should be coming your way again next year, so will definitely drop you a line.
