We invite Fly Talkers to join us in the Eastern Cape from the 20th to the 24th of May. We will fish some of the best still waters South Africa has to offer. This is cold, rich and fertile waters where the trout grow to trophy proportions.
We will be based at the spacious and comfortable Redcliffe Country House situated on a 3000Ha sheep and cattle farm. Redcliffe has three dams on the property – Ventnor, Delton and Theaden, where we will be fishing on Thursday. Friday and Saturday we will be fishing the legendary Thrift dam, with the option open to also fish at Redcliffe or other waters managed by Martin Davies.
Below is an extract from the latest report on the FOSAF website - http://www.fosaf.co.za/report-winterberg-stormberg.php
“WINTERBERG
Last month we advised that little fishing had been done in Feb/March, but those who visited Thrift did well. However, since then the autumn weather has cooled the water down and the fishing according to Martin has been amazing although he cannot guarantee this on every visit. For example Colin Moolman and Geoff Sing from Maclear took 54 fish up to 3,8 kg in a day and a half while Gary Robinson and a friend did similarly well over the same period with 52 of which two were 3,8kg. In fact the friend’s arm was aching so much he could hardly lift a thing when he returned to PE. But then just to prove that one cannot expect every day to be the same two other anglers visiting the following weekend could hardly raise a fish in perfect weather.
At Redcliffe two of the dams are producing well but the third, Theaden, is very weedy but should contain some very big fish and should the winter cold result in a dieback of the weed these fish should be catchable again.
It is believed that the Winterberg did receive some rain over the Easter period.”
