Default Urgent help on buying Rubber Duck /motor/battery

    Guys ,

    Need your urgent help !
What can be a best deal to buy Rubber Duck (small one, max 2,3 m ,light , max 30 kg or so ) ,to be able to mount and dismount the boat on the top of my Tuna easily ,then obviously electro motor 30-35 lbs, deep cycle battery ....what else shit I need...
    Use :
You know , Vaal River fishing for the old guy who is fricking tired and sick of wading those rocks and stones ....and to reach the spots I couldn't imagine without the boat..
Also, Sterkies maybe, on the calm weather ...

Please all you rubber duck experts tell me now , I need to make decision for this long weekend , Yellows are on !

    Thanks a million ,

trying to picture the old guy lifting a boat onto his tuna....
Zoran i dont have years of experience on rubber duckies but i used to have a camo duck with aluminium floor and it was 2,6m in length. there was no way i could pick that thing up onto the car. picking a bag of 30 or 40kg above your head is easy than picking a boat with proportions of 2,3m x 1,2m, firstly its a balancing act then the twisting of wrists as the boat goes over the car, unless you have a second guy to help then its all easy. but if you gonna ahead anyways, i would suggest an arc, with a transome for the electric troll motor. with an aluminium or wooden floor to carry the +_25kg deep cycle battery. the trolling motor should be of 54lbs, i know that a 30lbs could do the trick but a stronger motor is always better and uses the same battery power as the weaker motor. you will also need a battery charger, one of those smart c-tek chargers are pricy but with it. the extras that i can think of is, rope and anchor, oars, pumps (foot pump and electric pump), repair kit, roof racks with tie down/rope for transporting.
have to mention, these small ducks are easily assembled and dessembled on site .

    Zoran,

I have the Ark Otter (3m x 1,5m) with a Minn Kota 40lb motor and a 105ah deep cycle and that is perfect. I can carry it down to the water on my own. admittedly it is tough but to get it 50m from car to water. No probs.

30lb may be too little but you definitely dont need a 54lb. I like the Otter over the Fishduc as it is a very stable casting platform for flyfishing and can fit two flyfishers on comfortably with both able to cast with out any problems.

I have even had two adults and three kids (8, 11 and 12 yrs) on with same motor fishing some of the Eastern Cape estuaries. Although it was a squeeze, the boat and motor handled fine.

With the Ark you get oars, pump and repair kit with it. Then you need a decent charger and battery. Try Deltec in Wynberg for whoelsale prices on both. I prefer the infatable floor to the hard floors. Extra buoyancy and less weight. For short distances you dont need roof racks, just strap it straight onto the roof.

I have one of these bad boys: http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-boats-jet...30910028649609. I have launched it alone at Kommandonek, which has quite a steep bank. And I get it onto my Tuna's roof alone. Just get the blue one...

The 3.2m version with a 34lb trolly is perfect for the Vaal - even going up some above average rapids!

The get a 85Ah Doscover deep cycle battery. It's light and BY FAR the best deep cycle battery I've ever had (I have a bass boat as well, so I've gone through a few).

Hi guys , thanks for replies.
Mine should be (Jarvis Marine) Wintersnake rubberduck , only 2.3 m in lenght , aluminium floor ,Watersnake motor 34 lbs , witl deep cycle battery and accessories.
    Almost brand new .
I also think I will not need any extra roof racks, it should perfectly fit to existing roof racks on Tuna ...
Rubberduck weight 24 kg , and should be easily loaded on the roof ...
Still one day more to make decision ..

    Zoran,

One thing to bear in mind is that very short ducks (less than 3m long) battle to track straight when used with a motor. I would still look for an Ark Fishduc, without doubt the best quality. For motors look at a 40lb Minn Kota and for batteries nothing less than 100A/H unless you like rowing :-) I use 2 X 75 Ah run in parallel as they are easier to carry over a distance.

Ark and Minn Kota are like Epic Fast glass, the rest is plastic sh*t :-)
