Hi Guys,
Sure this will be of help for those heading out to the Breede and don't know where to fish and how to access the different spots. This is from my own experience and mainly aimed at the weekend angler who don't have access to a boat. The Infanta side is the better option for the wading fly fisher. The Witsand side offers more amenities, shops, fuel, restaurants, docter etc and is probably the better option for families who need all of this. Please add to the below from your experience on the Breede. Will post three different maps, starting at the mouth area.
The river mouth area
A - Kabeljoubank parking Infanta
This is where you park to access the mouth area from the Infanta side. Wooden stairs lead down to the mouth, right in front you will see a gully with rock ledges to the left and right. Walking to your left (B) you will get to a small sandy beach area - Sedgewicks. Walking further along towards C the shore is lined with rock and sand, with an old rock fish-kraal. The main current runs on the Infanta side and it just spells fish once you see. We have caught Leerfish and elf here, mainly from the low towards the high on a pushing tide. It is definitely also a spot where other species, like blacktail, zebra, belman, cob can be targeted. Sedgewicks are a renowned Belman spot amongst bait anglers.
E/D - Skuitbaai and Sandspit
Access from the Witsand side, drive towards to sea on Main road, just before the caravan park take a right - Roman street, second right again - Kabeljou street and drive till the last house on the river side, where you will find wooden stairs leading down to the river at Skuitbaai, from where you can also walk to the Sandspit, fish the Sandspit on the last hour of the outgoing tide and then on the start of the incoming, move back to Skuitbaai with the incoming tide. The Breede is a treacherous river with very strong currents, be safe and be aware of tidal movement. Expect Leerfish and elf.
F - NSRI jetty
Access from the Main road, there is a sign indicating where to turn. There is a great rocky point, upriver from the jetty, which can be accessed when the tide is lower. This area creates a rip current with many bait fish in the shallower water/bays on both sides. Expect Leerifish and elf.
G - Sandbank opposite jetty.
A renowned Leerfish spot. Can be accessed on the low/er tide from the Infanta side, there is a gravel road leading down to the river on your way to Infanta. Be there on the low and fish the pushing tide, be aware of how long it took to get there and bear in mind that you would have to walk back through water when the tide is fuller. You can also work your way to the left/upriver as the tide comes in. The water covers this bank very quickly around spring tides, safer to have a boat to hop on.

Towards Groenpunt.
A - Die Kraaltjie
Boat launch area, never fished in this area, casting from the side will be difficult due to the nature of the surrounding area.
B - Oysterbeds
Private launch area. I have never walked upriver from here, but do know it is possible, some great grunter flats further up at F.
C to E - Kontiki.
This is a great spot where you can expect to catch all main fly rod species - cob, grunter and Leerfish. Many Leeries are caught off the sand point fishing the drop off, it clearly creates a current line in this area. The bottom turns from sand to mud upriver in this area. Lots of baitfish between the grass and it is well worth fishing the area on all tides, tailing grunter is easier to target around the low tides, lookout for tailing fish/muds around the high tide, often at your feet, close to the shore. It is also a safe area.
D - Concrete jetty
This is a private jetty. Often grunter will tail on bots sides of the jetty and Leerfish will chase baitfish in this area, often around the low tides.
E - Public slipway/Parking
This area holds all of the regulars. Haven't fished here much, apart from bait fishing, easier to fish around the low tides due to casting space behind you and more human activity over weekends.
Upriver, past the last house on the Infanta side towards Grunter Bay/Moddergat it is mainly a rocky shore, where we have caught many Leeries and some cob and elf. It fishes easier when the water is lower, not much casting space on a full high tide.
F - Mudflats
Extensive mudflats. I haven't fished here, but expect some grunter and Leerfish. During our last trip we saw many big mullet in this area while approaching on the boat, not sure if they were flat heads or striped mullet. We also lost a good size Leerfish here while fishing off the boat.
G - Groenpunt
Given as a reference point
Towards Grunter Bay
A - Groenpunt
Given as a reference
B - Grunter Bay/Moddergat
Probably a 10 min walk from the slipway. The rocky points on both sides of the bay is great to target cob and leerfish. Within the bay itself expect some grunter on the lower tides and leerfish chasing fish onto the bank. Cob will also enter the bay on higher water.
C - Grunter corner
Not that this is the name of the spot, past the wooden jetty. Since you are in the vicinity, go and make a few casts here. Further upriver, access from the side and when you are on foot, becomes difficult.
Another spot I forgot to mention is the big sand bank, it has numerous shallow blind channels which will hold grunter, apart from the bank itself. I have never targeted the grunter here, so can't say where the better spots will be. It is also probably better to fish this around neap tides, as for other specific grunter spots, because the water stays on the bank for longer and for most part of the tides.
Baie mooi! My one buddy caught a nice belman in one of the channels on the main sandbank, so they are also there.
Hi Will101,
Have spoken to one of the Breede locals this past weekend and he sad some guys were fishing off the main sand bank towards the channel recently and most of the action were in the shallows/blind channels behind them which they didn't see. He was watching the action from his balcony on the Witsand side. I am sure most Breede fish move into these channels and it is well worth it to go and look.
