Depends on the source I would imagine, but I have enjoyed trout (obvious), bass and kurper. I have deep fried carp as well and that wasnt too bad either. My parents swear that barbel gives you very nice steaks, but ja, as I say, location location location.

Which locations are best? I live in KZN. And how did you cook your fish other than the carp?

a few times, from a fresh water perspective, a good old bream fillet with a nice batter always proved to be a winner, also, a nice bass chucked in the smoker...very fresh clean fish to nosh...

If you get carp from unpolluted water, and cooked right, it is a lovely eating fish.
In the Old Eastern Europe, CZ Poland Slovakia etc, the Christmas lunch is Carp.

If any person interested, I will post recipe and how to prepare

That sounds interesting. If you wouldn't mind sharing that would be great. Thanks.

Best I have ever tasted, is a stream side , Elandspad sushi trout. Early season when the water is still cool, and the 12inch size, seems to be the best.
Take two fillets, grind some black pepper onto it, and dribble some fresh lemon juice. Delicious.

The best for me is Smallmouth Bass, braai it next to the water with a bit of Aromat and a splash of lemon if available.

Trout is always good, the fresher the better.

    Largemouth bass not so good.
