I'm going to store these excuses/reasons away so when I need to get a new rod or two, I hide some of my current ones away, and bring one or more of the above into play to pacify SWAMBO for my expenditure...

I have broken 1 rod: twice. Both times broken the middle section of the rod. Both times casting. The 1st time was because of a loose ferrule (my fault - fair enough), and second one I have no idea. Broke half an inch above the same ferrule of the replacement. The Ferrule was still fitted snugly on the lower piece.

It was an explorer guide. A rod I always thought highly of. on inspection of the construction of blank and spline placement and other such things, I do not think very highly of Explorer's high end rod. I am beginning to have a bit of a beef against a lot of explorer products at the moment. maybe it's just me?
