#2 and #3 SAGE SPEY RODS

I never knew they made Spey rods or double handed rods in such light weights

It will be interesting to see how "Strong" these rods are.
I cannot see how the normal #2 and #3 will handle the rigours of Spey casting.
Extra back bone would have had to be added.

I do not understand why make them so light? Is spay not for big flies over long distance?

It does not help to fling a no 12 fly 40m away because chance a flies will find it on retrieve is small?

Any explanation for that? I dont know...

In the USA, there is a very large part of the fly fishing community that love to swing streamers etc.
For some, that is the only way they fish.
This is a way to capture that market.
The streamer fly fishers wants to be part of the ultra light brigade, and SAGE offered them a rod.
Every now and again, I will do a day of wet fly fishing on the Cape Streams.
It is FUN, it is diffirent and interesting.
We do not have rivers to really fish streamers, except part of the Vaal and Orange.
I have done some double handed with Skagit lines and it is fun, caught some LM and SM.
I can see the fun part of fishing this way

Yes, you are partially correct. The original methodology was to be able to cast large salmon flies over distance where there was inadequate space to make a back cast, such as parts of the "Spey River". The technique took on the name of the river where it was developed., and its become something of a general technique. Spey casting does not necessarily provide you with more distance than single handed casting.

I will differ with you on this.
A lot of the Spey casters cast consitently 120 to 150 feet. that is 35m to 45 meters.
with almost no effort. (if you know what you are doing)
the average single handed rod fly line is very seldom 30 meters.

Yes, I hear you, I think what I meant was that the objective of Spey casting, is not to achieve more distance, its more of a technique that you would do because it appeals to you, unless of course you are fishing in conditions where there is no option.
