I fished with three of the guys in two previous World Champs, truly great instinctive/talented/natural fly fishers. Not mentioning MC, who has been part of the squad for many years! In my opinion this is one of the best teams SA has ever fielded and believe they can be in the medals.

    Top 5 as a team
    3 in the Top 20

The composition of teams over the last 30 plus years have changed a lot.
If you look at team photos and photos of the podiums over the 30 years, the teams have got younger and younger.
The SA team's average age is probably 23 years old.
This applies for most teams, maybe a bit older.
The one area where we really lack is experience.
And that is one area where only years and years of competition fly fishing builds it up.
If you look at the CZ team, all below 30 years old, a couple of Junior world champ titles, a couple of European titles, a couple of world World titles, all in the individual spots, that is not counting the team spots.
In session 4 and 5, that is where the experience counts.
Over the years, I have studied the results. Up to session 3, we have always done very well, even exceptional. but in the last 2 sessions, that is where are taking strain.
A guy like Christiaan will be worth his gold in the team setup. he has a couple of world champs under his belt, good results and a very wide net of experience.

    Let me explain my ranking.

Because of home water, the USA will be dominant factor. And in the last 5 years, the have done major work on the competition side of their fly fishing.
The Czech and French are always in the top 3.
The Polish and Spanish fights it out for the other spot in the medals.
that is the top 5 spots, the positions can vary.
The Italians have produced numerous world champs and had a couple of team top 3 spots as well.
England is always a power house and have a team that competes every weekend back home, although the rivers are not their strong point.

South Africa has always done very well in the stillwaters over the years.
I would say if we average our stillwater results over the last 16 years, compared to other teams, we are in the top 5 spots.
In this championships there is only 1 still water.

Then you have NZ and Oz which have very good records in Worlds where there are a strong river component in the champs.
The Belgiums have an excellent record at the worlds as well

Just a pity the organisers are so slow with the scores

If I may ask a few questions. Where have SA finished in the last three World's?

Edit. Who pays for the team to get there?
