Stanton i know you have the sage slt 282.I picked up the sage spl 282 on ebay.Have you tried/owned the spl before?

Yes, I had one before I got the SLT. Why are you asking?

I had both rods in my hand at the same time casting them in the yard side by side and honestly there wasn't a big difference that I could pick up. In fact in less experienced hands someone will say they were identical. Maybe on the stream it would have been a different story. But I think the SPL was a fraction slower as it flexed a little lower into the butt section. On stream that will make a big difference in fishing pocket water like we have here in the WC. I remember the SPL loaded slightly easier than the SLT, even though both cast exactly the same. The SLT's casting was a little crisper and the recovery slightly quicker than the SPL. I realized that it was due the difference in carbon fibre used to construct both rods. The SPL was made with Graphite 4 which caused it to be "slower" and the SLT with Graphite 3e, which was a slightly higher modulus graphite. Both rods was made using the same taper. They weigh the same and have the same length, however due to the higher modulus Graphite 3e, the SLT ended up being the slightly crisper rod and felt lighter in hand while casting compare to the SPL. I loved the SPL and secretly wish I still had one. It is truly one of Sages better rods, but highly underrated as more guys started getting on the fast action band wagon when the SPLs were in full production. The SLTs are beautiful blanks, fish really well and can also load within a rods length, but the SPL has more soul.
