Would like to help but a lot of us are off for VO1 and will not get swambo's OK to do this as well - unfortunately!

Here is another good piece on conservation. Click Here.
It's not in the catching, it's in the learning something new.

We've the FOSAF Northvaal AGM tonight. If anyone has any current updates on pollution or proposed 'developments 'on the Vaal I'd be grateful for any info so I can disseminate to the guys.

    Thanks
    Chris

Well ladies and gentlemen, SEVEN years from my last post on above. We are having a major revamp on FOSAF Northvaal/YWG and will be asking all members of Flytalk for their input. This will involve a survey and asking you for what YOU want and we will advise what we are doing at present and let's get the whole show moving! We are already constructing a youth education programme not just in fly fishing but in the whole river/dam health, fish concervation and the environment. WATCH THIS SPACE within the next week!

Cheers Chris - now FOSAF EXCO/North Chairman and Yellowfish Working Group

    Hello OMR
Glad to see you are still alive and active in the fly fishing.

Thanks Korrie, great to be in contact with you again! I don't know about the yellows but I'm also in desperate need of conservation! I'm coming to Cape Town end Sept to guest in an old timers celeb footie match. Will give you a shout and we can meet up for a cup of earl grey or two.... Cheers C

    Default clamwilliam yellows

anyone know what the bas in the ceder berg are doing!. 3 years ago i would catch 10 yellows in 1 day at the camp site, last time i went,in 3 days i caught 6 yellows and saw lots of small bas and a 45 cm bas (i would not be surprised if i heard 60 cm bas were being caught) i have caught a 55 cm yellow but haven't seen any large native fish since.(excluding maalgat you can catch 10 fish per hour)

we must do a beter job of catching bas and removing them from this river if we want to catch any of the native fish (i understand bas don't taste good but you don't have to eat them just as you kill all bas caught!)

this was while i was still a bait and lure fisherman (yellows were caught on bread and biltong bas on spinners)

I get the feeling that CNC is not so worried about the Clanwilliams any more.
The Clans have succesfully adapted to a life in dams and there is a very large area now with Clans living in dams, to MONSTER sizes.
    Breeding very succesfully as well.
the threat to Clans are greatly reduced.
Just wondering about all the minnows etc that use to inhabit the streams in the Cederberg, how many are now left with all the bass?
