    De Mond report back.

Thank you to all who joined us this past Saturday at De Mond. After the front that came through on Friday the weather was pleasant, with a mild Southerly blowing for most part of the day.*

There were good numbers of juvenile leerfish, with the emphasis on juvenile :-). Earlier in the week some cob were landed on fly and during Saturday morning one cob came out on bait, towards the mouth. Also two grunter came out on bait, with one being a 75cm fish that was landed at the bridge.

"One day I will smoke your reel !"

The striped mullet were scarce, however Danie Carinus landed a beautiful Stripey on a chartreuse yarn fly. Interesting was that Thomas spotted three striped mullet cruising in the channel, they weren't chumming with bread. As Danie presented the fly the pod swam past, one fish made a U'e and hammered the chartreuse fly.

We did see some grunter towards the mouth, not many, there are plenty of southern mullet and the fishing, in terms of bigger leerfish and cob should improve as we go into February and March. For those who are keen to target big flathead mullet, there are good numbers of these fish at the moment. As always De Mond is just a special place and well worth a day visit. Oh, they do not issue fishing permits onsite anymore, so make sure you have one before you go.

We still have some openings on our upcoming Breede trip from the 23rd to the 26th of February, space is limited to 6 anglers.

    Good Morning to All,

Winelands Fly Fishing have a social De Mond outing this coming Saturday. The gates at De Mond open at 7am (Entrance is R40.00 or R 50.00) and you will need a saltwater angling license available from the post office. Some post offices seem to be short on licenses, we have some year angling licenses in the shop and you will need to take it to your local post office. We fished De Mond two weeks back and landed some Leeries. Some kob were also landed. There have been good reports on this lovely estuary so far this year. We have the flies you will need in the shop. Hope to see you on the water. Grant Webster with a De Mond Leerie.
