From the CPS

Join us for Slide Night at the CPS on the 30th of June!

For this month’s event, we have Henkie Altena Altena of Fly Dot Fish, visiting us from the Karoo to present on two fantastic destinations he knows very well. One of the pioneers of the Southern Cape saltwater fly fishing scene, for this Slide Night Henkie will serving up both some local salt action as well as some of the best fishing available just over the border.

Big Kob of Karoolskraal

Many of you may have - at some stage in the last 6 months or so - seen a photograph of Conrad Botes with a monster kob caught on fly. Conrad’s no stranger to catching big kob and other Western Cape saltwater targets on fly, but the look on his face with this behemoth says it all. The system? The Breede River. The venue? Karoolskraal, where Henkie and his crew from FlyDotFish have a fantastic location completely set up to give you the best of the Cape salt. You also stand a chance of catching Grunter and Garrick (along with big Kob) giving you a special local Grand Slam.

Tigers of the Okavango Barbel Run

Much further north, Henkie and his team guide clients around one of the great, natural, seasonal fishy phenomenons of the world - the Okavango barbel run. Occurring in early summer every year, as the floodplains recede many fish species are pushed back into the larger channels where the tigerfish await them. Like the freshwater equivalent of the sardine run, this is a special natural experience to observe and an even better one to fly fish.

When: Thursday 30th of June, 6pm – 6:30pm until 8:30pm-9pm
