Default 7 wt flyline on CR3 reel

I tried to load a 7 Wt Airflow WF7F on the CR3 today, it seems it does not fit with backing.

I t looks like no backing will fit with the full 32 m of flyline.

    Any advise would be appreciated

Reel and line will be used for LM yellows with a 7 WT rod.

    Backing is 12 lbs dacron.

Cut the running line end, for a total of 60ft, that's if you don't mess with the taper, get a large arbor reel, etc. I use a 32m line too and used an SL6 for a few years. SL5 is fine but I didn't enjoy them. I fish 15ft leaders most of the time and hate not having enough space when reeling in........

Get the new CR4 Spool, it is a deeper spooled Shilton created for the CR3 reel to allow for thicker fly lines and more backing

Thanks Gerrit , I thought about cutting the flyline but was not sure. The Shilton CR3 just feels so much better on the 7 wt rod compared to the SL5.

Can also get in contact with Murray Pedder from Flyz. Inc, they handle the Shilton brand

The CR3 EX is the right spool for the CR3 - From flyz-inc.

CR4 reel is a complete larger new reel, see the article in the June/July issue of the TCFF magezine.
