Flytying Desks

Where\What do the rest of you blokes use to tie flies and store materials ?

My solution is a collapsable table that I put up when tying. Storage for materials is in a black plastic box. Bit of a schlep when you have to unpack and pack away but anycase.
All materials are sorted by type and go into plastic ziplock bags.

I'm thinking of getting a little roll top desk thingie that can close, so that any mess I leave can be quickly hidden when guests arrive.

Rolltop is the answer, although you really do need to be able to hang stuff. The trick is to be able to see all your materials, otherwise you end up going to buy stuff that you already have.

Ja, fly tying desks are great, but an even better option is a dedicated fly tying 'hokkie', preferable as far away from the house as possible. This is a welcome retreat when out of season fishing blues set in, and the need to 'breek weg' becomes overwhelming! The real nice thing about it is that you only pack away when you are good and done, and not because someone tells you to! The pros to having your own little 'hokkie' are endless, and in the long run bodes for a better relationship with the swambo.

my tying space is in a computer work station i got from some friends. it closes
and can be completely hidden. methos, my stuff is still all over the table. lucky for me mommy fabric paints so we do some action together and her stuff lies around as much as mine does. helps a heap when to blame someone when the domestic arives

Andre - What is that mug of coffee doing on your desk ? I thought everybody tied with whiskey. At least that is what I tell swambo.

I use a small desk in the spare room (also houses a reloading desk, computer desk and cupboards for biking, camping and shooting stuff !)

For storing materials I use a A4 drawer system from Plastics 4 Africa.

For travel I use a medium sized bag from Quiver Outdoor, olny carry around 1/2 to 2/3 of my tying materials when travelling.

The last pic is of boxes I use for tying threads/floss/v-rib/wire, dubbing, hooks and beads etc. The name of the game is size reduction

I'm busy doing renovations on my house, which of course include building a pub

Now the plan is to move my fly tying out of the house into the pub, so I'm working on a design to incorporate multiple tying points on the bar counter. So hopefully by the end of the year I'll be able to post some pics. It can only be a pleasure to tie flies next to a draught tap and not the dining room table

Damn, now that is what I call a PROPER tying station!
I've got an 'L' shape pc desk with my pc on the one side and my tying station on the other. The nice thing is that the tying side has a double surface (like a step), which makes some extra space for storage vessels/packing space - it is also convenient for elevating the tying lamps, keeping them out of the way.

All I need now is to modify the edge into a mini bar…
