    Default Cape Town Offshore

I would like to take a charter to target yellowtail and maybe some snoek in winter.

I think I've got everything sorted except for the line. I believe you need to get down deep and fast.

Any recommendation on a line or line setup?

    Thanks

    T14 lines.

This is the Rio tungsten line.
I know you can get bulk spools of the stuff and cut your own heads to the length you want.

Do you know what depth you're fishing?
Also, remember depth isn't just everything - water movement (current) and boat drift plays a big issue.

There are heavier impregnated lines using tungsten available, but over the years I prefer the T14.
It has uniform sink and a weighted fly keeps up a pretty even sink rate with the line that avoids tangles.

My only gripe is the core that breaks at 35lb.

the yellowtail can be on the surface.
the snoek is deep. (most of the times)

Get hold of Richard Wale at Big Catch in Cape Town... they run fly specific charters for Snoek and Yellowtail...

Yellowtail can certainly be taken on surface lines/flies, but I believe Richard's most successful tactics has been fishing a 250/300 or 350 grain sinking lines, similar to Tigerfishing lines and set ups...

Snoek typically you wanna get down deep and fast... KISS theory for those horrible things I reckon...

    Kev has it right !!
t14 length to match the rod weight with flattened mono or commercial running line to get down
