I love tying with deer hair, but after three or four flies it feels like the house is covered in hair. Maybe its time to switch to foam.
Hi Booger, the wake is pretty much the same so no benefits there imho. It makes for a nicer plop I must say! The foam is more of a mess than Deer hair hehe! I still use Deer hair in other patterns for example the HUB.

Ja 2mm foam cut into 2mm strips I use exactly 14 for each fly all stacked pappa! Spinning doesn't really work......it's fine but I get better results by stacking.

Ps. I'm using more blades to shape a fly than with Deer hair. I can do 6 "foam" flies with one blade whereas with DH I can maybe do 8-10, sometimes 12. The last bit I trim using a serrated scissor.

Special feeling when your flies produce the goods! William Lotter pictured here with a few feisty Largies all caught on Hybrids.
