    IMPRESIVE - which supplier Wiets?

... hmmm .... 600 metres of chenille ... probably about 5cm per fly .... let me do some arithmetic .. that works out at about 12 000 flies!!! maybe lose say max three flies per outing ... ends up with 4 000 outings .... which is about 11 years of fishing non-stop ... 365 days a year ...
I always wanted to be somebody, but now I realize I should have been more specific.

    Hi Roland

The boat's loading capacity is 7000 Kg for stores.
So, I allocated 500 Kg's for all fly fishing stuff.
I'm now on about 110 Kg's of stuff - this leaves me with another 390 Kg's.

As with all materials, you get good stuff and great stuff.

There are two main types of chenille. Rayon-, and Tuff- or Suede Chenille. You bought Rayon chenille. The disadvantage is that the fibres are faiurly loosly spun and therefore not very durable. It is also difficult to create a uniform or compact body.

The Tuff chenille is everything that the Rayon is not.

Nowadays chenille is not a widely used material and most people opt for dubbing or the newer crystal-type chenille. The most usable Rayon chenille is the variegated or barred types.

That's it, and the other stuff called Vernille, but I think that's the same as suede chenille?

    Hi MC

    Thanks for the info!
Apparently this stuff is acrylic chenille - whatever "acrylic" means.
I'm not sure what you mean by "variegated"? A search shows it
means a "mixture of coloured fibres" - is this what you mean?

Maybe I should talk to you first before going on a buying binge!

Do anyone perhaps know where one can find this stuff in Cape Town ?

I've been to a place in Northumberland lane that sells thick chenille but they only sell it in rolls of 112m - +-R70.

Yes, the variegated chenille comes in different colour mixes. Black/olive, brown/olive, yellow/olive etc.

There is a dragon pattern, called a Ruane Dragon, that uses the Brown/olive mix for the body. Great fly, but not quite as good as a filoplume dragon.

I went into the PNA in Somerset Mall on Saturday. They sell some really useful stuff. I think I also saw some chenille. In Voortrekker road (Bellville), there is a wool shop that sells all the chenille.

    Cheers
