let me ask another question, how many pre-tied leaders and how many different types of leaders do you carry in your vests when going out fishing?

I dont use tapered leaders on the vaal when short line nymphing but I do carry three or four pre-tied leaders with all of the droppers, tippet rings etc rolled up in a bank bag.

I have had the same 4X tapered leader on my reel for the last 2 years or so. I fish every weekend so it gets a fair amount of use. I carry a spare 4X tapered leader and tippet I change every outing.

Default Fly selection: dropper and point

    Hey gents.

I would like to hear your oppinion on selecting the flies for either the point or dropper. Is the heavier fly on the drop or at the point?

If the heavier fly is on the drop, will the smaller lighter fly not pass the heavier fly in the current? Creating a tipe of "dead space" that will reduce the nr of takes you pick up..

Does it matter? How does your fly setup behave in a current, and how should you apply this to fly selection?

    Thanx

Look at the Vaalriver clips I posted. I only fished 2 flies with heavy fly on the point and something lighter on the dropper. Simple setup !

There are many different ways of doing it. Most guys who nymph for yellows, Czech style use three flies, with the heavier control fly in the middle. If hymphing with two flies, I personally prefer the heavy fly on the dropper, for me, it seems to give a better indication of the touch. With the heavy fly on the point, it seems to lose a little of the feel for mee.
