    Default Fly tying reference manual.

    Hi guys,
After all that has been written about fly tying over the years, could anybody reccomend a currently available manual that has the info required and where it is obtainable?

    Thanks.

    Hi Charles,

I think the definitive book on fly tying, if there were one such book, would be The Fly Tier's Benchside Reference, but Jim Schollmeyer and Ted Leeson.

It cover's pretty much every technique you could possibly think of and is considered by many to be the bible of fly tying.

It's not cheap though, Expect to pay in the region of R700-R1000.

As far as availability goes, I'm sure the likes of Exclusive Books would order it for you, otherwise try Kalahari.net or amazon.com

Prices seem to vary quite widely, so shop around.

    Hi Shaun,

I bought this book a couple of years ago, while it's an excellent book and covers every technique known to man, it doesn't really teach you to tie particular flies. Eben bought a cheaper version of the same book which has the techniques in conjunction with tying particular patterns. Looks very good and ideal for a beginner. In your case you probably want the reference. I paid about R350 for mine off Amazon a couple of years ago, locally at the time it was selling for R700.

    Regards,
    Darryl
